Firefighters get the boot, raise funds to fight MD

September 1, 2012

Fill the Boot took place Saturday morning

“Fill the Boot!” was the cry heard from Big Spring firefighters Saturday.
Members of the BSFD stood at the intersection on Gregg Street in hopes of raising funds in the battle against muscular dystrophy.
“This is a really good cause and we are proud to be able to support it,” BSFD Lt. Greg McAlister said.
All funds raised Saturday will remain local and provide support for families dealing with muscular dystrophy — a group of inherited disorders involving muscle weakness and loss of muscle tissue, which progressively can get worse over time.
“This money will be used to support families with medical expenses and will also help send kids to a camp held in Happy, Texas, which helps ensure that they are able to have fun,” McAlister said.
The Professional Firefighters Association has been supporting this program for more than 20 years. Big Spring Professional Firefighters Association 2922 has been taking part in it, as well, for many years, according to McAlister.
