April 23, 2012

A 51-year-old Big Spring man is in stable condition with a gunshot wound at Scenic Mountain Medical Center and the alleged shooter is in custody, police said this morning.
Genaro Castroena was shot in the abdomen during an argument that took place around 11:45 p.m. Saturday at 400 W. Fourth. He was rushed to the local hospital by ambulance.
According to police, the shooting suspect, 62-year-old Alberto Hernandez-Diaz, was taken into custody and transported to the Howard County Detention Center. He was waiting arraignment this morning.
“The suspect was arrested at the scene and a .22 caliber handgun was seized,” said Sgt. Tony Everett, information office with the Big Spring Police Department. “The shooting appears to have taken place in front of the suspect's home following an argument between the two men.”
Everett said it is believed the two men knew each other, but the reason for the argument is not known.
The shooting remains under investigation.
