Man arrested in Martin County stabbing

September 25, 2012

A barbecue turned violent in Martin County during the weekend, as a Midland man was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two people were treated for injuries, according to law enforcement officials.

Corey Glenn Rodgers, 43, of Midland, was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after officials with the Martin County Sheriff's Office say he attacked a number of people at a party Sunday evening in the 3000 block of State Highway 176.

According to MCSO Chief Deputy Ernest Wakefield, law enforcement officers were called to the residence at approximately 8:46 p.m. Sunday.

“Deputies were dispatched in reference to a call that someone had been stabbed,” Wakefield said. “When they arrived on the scene they found one person had been stabbed and another had been struck with a metal pipe. Shortly after that, the suspect was located walking down a nearby roadway, where he was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.”

Wakefield said the injuries sustained by the victims were not life threatening.

“The victims were treated and released,” he said. “We're not sure at this time what caused the dispute between Rodgers and the others. We do know Rodgers was invited to the party. It's unclear at this time if he has any family in Martin County.”

Wakefield said bond has been set at $10,000 per charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, for a total of $20,000. Rodgers had not made bond at press time Tuesday morning and was still in the custody of the MCSO.
