Steers fall short to Mustangs in 5-3 defeat

The Big Spring varsity baseball team traveled to Sweetwater to take on the Mustangs in a district matchup on Monday and came up short as they lost with a final score of 5-3.
“This loss is extremely tough. These boys have done nothing but fight all year, and for whatever reason, we just can’t seem to get the big hit or the big pitch when we need to.” said head baseball coach Daniel Carrillo. “We have put ourselves in winning situations throughout district but seem to continue to come up short. It’s definitely been a life lesson for the boys that just because you do right doesn’t mean automatic reward, but we are going to continue to fight and keep playing the right way. And as always, bring the boat.”
Riley Henson took the loss for Big Spring, as he threw for three innings, surrendered four runs on three hits, walked five, and struck out four. Henson, Kobe Gutierrez and Jason Miramontes each got one hit for the Steers.
Up next, the Steers will host Brownwood for their second district meeting on Thursday, April 13 at 7:00 p.m.
