Vada Maxwell

Vada Maxwell passed from this world peacefully on Nov. 15, 2014, at 4:58 a.m. in Monroe, N.C. and is resting in the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Her loving smile, sense of humor, humility and caring demeanor will be missed by all of those who were touched by the life of this very special woman.

Vada was born Jan. 5, 1931 in Snowball, Ark., and lived in Big Spring for more than 50 years. She devoted her life to her family and to serving Christ.

Jerry Allen Chancy Jr.

Jerry Allen Chancy Jr., 44, of Big Spring, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, in an Odessa hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.

Jerry was born July 26, 1970, in Big Spring, and married Shalimar Free, Dec. 18, 2009.

He has followed in his father's footsteps and worked his whole life in the oilfield. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

Alton Ray 'Al' Bagwell

Alton Ray “Al” Bagwell, of Stephenville, formerly of Big Spring, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, after a short illness. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Gardens in Snyder, Texas.

He was born Dec. 29, 1924 in Clyde, Texas. Al joined the United States Army Air Corp and served in Italy and France during World War II.

In 1962, he purchased what was the Big M and founded Al’s Drive Inn. In 1964, he started Al’s BBQ , which is still in operation.

James Newell Turner

James Newell Turner, 93, of Abilene, Texas, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, and entered back into the arms of his parents and family who have gone before him. A service will be held Friday, Nov. 21, 2014, at 2 p.m. in North’s Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange St. George Price Jr. is officiating. Graveside services will be Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at noon in The City of Levelland Cemetery in Levelland, Texas, with burial to follow.

Philip Russell Stovall

November 20, 2014

Philip Russell Stovall, 78, passed away on Nov. 17, 2014, at his home with his wife Margaret and family by his side. He lived a life dedicated to his family, his church and his Texas State Bobcat family. He was born in Plaquemine, La., on April 16, 1936, to William Charles and Corma Marie Hamilton Stovall.

Douglas Edgar Hattenbach

Douglas Edgar Hattenbach, 96, of Denton, formerly of Big Spring, passed away Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, in Denton. He was born Nov. 6, 1918 in Edna, Texas, to Martin and Amalia ”Molli” Olga Ustynic Hattenbach. He married Anna Augustina Yendry on Oct. 9, 1948. She preceded him in death. He served in U.S. Army Air Force during WW II. He was awarded five Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal for his service. He had retired from Webb Air Force Base.

Vada Maxwell passed away Nov. 15, 2014, at 4:58 a.m. in Monroe, N.C.

Vada was born Jan. 5, 1931, in Snowball, Ark., and lived in Big Spring for more than 50 years.

She is survived by four siblings, Norma, Sherry and Marion Rae and Leroy; her children, Billy Clayton, Danny Clayton, Ann Rogers, Rick Heckler, Jason Heckler, Missy Whitley and Teresa Harrison; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, Sherman and Rosie Hester Sullins; a brother, Dorsey; and three sisters, Geneva, Bonnie and Betty Sue.

Lee Roy Findley

Lee Roy Findley, 90, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, in Century, Fla.

He was a native of Big Spring, Texas, and a resident of Century, Fla., for most of his life. Mr. Findley was a World War II veteran, former member of Airport Baptist in Big Spring and a long-time member of the Poplar Dell Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Ruthie Hawthorne Findley; sisters, Lois Jernigan, Mary Wells and Mattie Ruth Ohlson; and brothers, Cecil Findley, Garland Findley and James Findley.
