Animal cruelty case

Staff Writer

The remains of a cat found in a man's mailbox yesterday morning has prompted the Big Spring Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division to open an animal cruelty investigation.
“Officers responded to 509 Union in reference to a request for assistance by an Animal Control Warden,” a Big Spring Police Department press release read. “Officer learned that a subject had gone to check his mail and found a dead cat in his mailbox that appeared to be burned.”
According to BSPD, the cat's owner was the complainant's next door neighbor and “has no idea why anyone would have harmed the cat”. The cat's remains were taken by animal control.
